Who am I?
I am a scientist, engineer, and educator. I am currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Cognitive Robotics Department of the Delft University of Technology. There, I am leading the Haptic Interface Technology Group (HITLAB). My research aims to create natural, compelling, and customizable haptic interactions in virtual environments. I investigate the skin deformations that occur during interactions with natural surfaces or tactile interfaces and the resulting perceptual experiences. I also design new haptic interfaces and rendering algorithms to emulate realistic touch experiences in virtual environments. I am interested in applying my research to communication, medicine, education, and human-robot interaction fields. For more details, please check my research page, list of publications, or group website.
Bio
Before joining to TU Delft, I was a Post Doctoral Researcher at the Haptic Intelligence Department of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. I earned my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Koç University (Istanbul, Turkey) in January of 2018. Before my Ph.D., I worked as a control engineer at TNO Additive Manufacturing Department in Eindhoven (the Netherlands). I received my M.Sc. degree in Systems and Control at the Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands) in 2012, and my B.Sc degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Sabanci University (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2010.
Personal
I was born in 1987 in Ankara, Turkey. I grew up in Mugla, Turkey, where most of my family members currently live. I am one of the three daughters of my parents.
